What is a Real Estate Agent?

Real Estate Agents are licensed professionals who assist in real estate transactions. They have expertise and knowledge about their local market. As an Agent, you can specialize in residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and business sales. Agents also usually work under a brokerage (like Keller Williams, ERA, Coldwell Banker, etc.) and are independent contractors who get paid commission per transaction.

So what do you offer to customers as an Agent? The product you market is your knowledge. That’s why we say education never stops in this industry. “ Education is the cornerstone to success and breakthroughs” says owner/instructor Denis Milonas. As an agent you need to always know how property is transferred, how to market properties, the condition of your local market, and how to sell yourself and your business. You should be collecting market information, home selling/buying tips, contacts and more to help you come off as a professional. You should also sign up for classes all the time. You can never learn enough about contracts, negotiations, closings, listings…… the list really goes on forever.

Many agents jump right in without the knowledge it takes. Newbies in a rush to get their first commission check, often forgo consistent lead generation, contract preparation mastery, and negotiation skills training. We really only have 5 job responsibilities: lead generation,
following up with those leads and contacts, getting and going on appointments, filling out contracts, and negotiation. We want the best for our customers, so we must be confidential, obedient and have full disclosure when dealing with them. We help people with one of the biggest investments in their life. Having knowledge and good character can really make a difference.

Knowledge is key, but the biggest thing we have to do is stay committed. Denis says, “ All we have to do is look at ourselves in the mirror every day, and recommit to saying and doing the things necessary to make business happen. How hard is it to do something you’re not committed to?”
